In modern society, we tend to believe leadership is based upon tenure in a company, or age of someone in an organization, or the person with the most degrees. This is not unlike how leadership was valued prior to Jesus beginning his earthly ministry. Leadership was about status, money, and power, and Jesus came to Earth to remind us that true leadership and influence is counter to that. Through his life he taught us that leadership is measured through obedience to the Lord, the one who sent him, and through a heart and posture of service, not authority. Upon fulfilling his mission and dying on the cross on behalf of our sins, after his defeat of the grave and resurrection he called all of us who follow him to share the Good News and make disciples of all nations. While we may not see the fruit of that leadership on earth, the reward will appear in heaven as we live in eternity with those whose lives we influenced.
