Counter-Cultural Love

 • Series: This Cultural Moment

In this powerful message, we're challenged to embrace a countercultural love in a world dominated by hate. The key scripture, Luke 6:27-36, calls us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. This radical love was the hallmark of early Christianity, setting it apart from other religions. We're reminded that Jesus redefined love as 'agape' - an other-centered, sacrificial care for one another. The message draws an interesting parallel between our modern 'two minutes of hate' fueled by media and social polarization, and the propaganda described in George Orwell's '1984'. As followers of Christ, we're called to break this cycle of hate and embrace forgiveness, even when it's difficult. This teaching is deeply relevant to our daily lives, urging us to examine our hearts, confront our own struggles with hate, and strive to embody Christ's love in all our interactions. Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. Our vision is to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did so that we may love all people in Jesus' name.
