Chapter 5: In Desperate Need of Mercy
• Jordan Smucker • Series: Luke
In this powerful message, we're challenged to confront the parts of our lives that aren't yet formed like Jesus. The story of Luke 5 serves as a mirror, showing us how Jesus consistently reached out to those society deemed unworthy. From calling Peter, a loud-mouthed fisherman, to touching a leper, to dining with tax collectors - Jesus consistently broke social norms to extend mercy. This challenges us to examine our own hearts: are we more like the judgmental Pharisees, or are we willing to extend mercy like Jesus? The key lesson here is that formation requires confrontation. We're urged to let Jesus confront the areas in our lives where we fall short, allowing Him to shape us into His image. This message reminds us that the goal of generosity isn't about percentages or amounts, but about obedience to God's leading. As we reflect on this, we're encouraged to ask ourselves: Can Jesus see our faith in action? Are we willing to go to great lengths to bring others to Him? _______________________ Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center.
